Basic Editing Tutorial | CyberLink PowerDirector 16

Cyberlink PowerDirector 16 Ultimate tutorial: I'm gonna learn you how to learn hey powerdirector peeps how y'all doing out there my name is Malik and I'm back on your screen with more PowerDirector love you know the power of directed love you're looking for from PowerDirector University today I'm gonna show you the basic editing tools in powers direct 216 so let's jump off into the software and make it happen here we are in the opening interface

of power director 16 and it's time for me to show you those basic editing tools that you're looking for before we get started I want to remind you to subscribe to power director University to see great tips and tricks just like this every Saturday if you decide that you like power directed 16 and you want to upgrade to the software or you want to buy the software there is a link in the

video description that you can use to purchase it or to upgrade to it now that is an affiliate link so if you use that link I'll get a small Commission or a small kickback for you using it and that money will be used to help me continue to create content to help you continue to make videos now if you use that link you're paying the same price as if you went to the

website without using a link so if you want to help me help you use the affiliate link so here in this opening interface you have a few options the first one is you can set your video aspect ratio the first selection is 16 by 9 which is HD or higher resolution but you have 4 by 3 which is standard resolution and then you have 9 by 16 which is usually for those

individuals who fill things with their phones in portrait mode underneath that you have timeline mode now timeline mode is the regular editing mode where all the features of the program are available to you next is that you have storyboard mode now that creates a large graphical display of all your video clips and images instead of actually bringing a timeline for you to edit in you can actually switch between timeline and storyboard mode once you enter

the program and then to the right of story mode mode you have slideshow creator which helps you create professional slideshows with the greatest of ease underneath that back on the left hand side we have auto mode and auto mode opens up the magic movie wizard which helps you create movies with just a few clicks and then to the right of that you have your 360 editor option now that opens the program with the

default 360 video project settings and a 360 video timeline now I'm gonna go into the timeline mode and show you all of the power director love that you'll need to start editing videos so let's start off by going over the four main tabs of the program the first one is the capture tab so in the capture tab you're able to import things so that you can use it in the program whether it's

importing clips from a video camera its importing something from a webcam audio from a microphone or even using the screen recorder this is how you bring things into the program to utilize those assets for editing your videos next you have your edit tab and the Edit tab is where you create your video you actually have access to your timeline your preview and all your media assets effects things like that here then if you

bring some assets into the timeline let's bring a few things in here real quick okay so once you have something in a timeline then the produce tab is activated so if you click on a produce tab this is the spot that you go to to create your videos so that you can view them on YouTube on a TV basically you selecting a file type and selecting all the the parameters of that file so

that you can watch it later on a different device and then you have your create disk tab so if you're looking to create a DVD then this is the tab that you would go to to create menus and author your DVD so I'm gonna go to the Edit tab because this is about basic editing so we're going to spend our time on this tab going over the different features and tools the

interface on the Edit tab is made up of your media library on the left the preview window on the right and the timeline below all of that information so let's start off with the media library so here on the left you have your import media button so when you click on this it gives you the ability to select different options for importing media or downloading things from the director zone so if you click

on import media then you can go and select a folder and go and select a file or an asset and open it up in the program to the right of that you have your plugins button so if you click on the plugins button you'll see that there are several options here for plug-ins for the program such as the video collage designer theme designer express projects your screen recorder all that goodness but to the

right of that you have your media drop-down so from here you can choose different types of media that shows up in the media library whether it's the media content color boards backgrounds all type of options that you have here so if you are in the media content selector then you can select which type of media appears or does not appear so if it's blue that that type of media will be selected and

it will appear within the media library so if I click on videos it's gonna remove all the videos and now you just see that everything in here or JPEG or MPL files if I remove images then only audio shows up here and then I can go ahead and add those things back if I want to see everything to the right of that I have my library menu so I can choose large icons

medium icons I can export the library all types of different things here and then to the right of that I have my adjust thumbnail size so I can use this slider here to change the size of the thumbnails if I wish to do so and then if I want to search the library for a specific file I can go ahead and use this window to search the library now on the left

hand side we have the different rooms that we can go to so as you can tell the media room shows the media then you have your effect room and now the media library changes to be effects and then we have things like the PRP objects room we have the particle room we have a title room for titles and text we have a transition room so transitions are how you create seamless transitions

from one clip to another and if you want to see a tutorial on how to use transitions and all of the basics of transitions then make sure that you watch my transitions tutorial there'll be a link to that video on the screen that you can go back to and watch after you finish watching this video now after the transitions room we have our mixing room we have our voiceover recording room we have our

chapter room and we have our subtitle room so I'm going to go back up here to the media room and now we're pretty much done with the things for the media library so let's go over here to the preview window if I click on any item here in the library then you can see that that item shows up in a preview window so based on what that item is I can scrub

the timeline here to play it or I can just click on the play button and I can do the same thing in my timeline so if I click on an item in the timeline that item will show up in the preview window and I can scrub the timeline using my playhead by left clicking on it and just moving my playhead across here or I can use the play head under the preview window

and scrub the timeline as well so let's talk about these options underneath the preview window but first we have clip so if I have a clip selected then that's what's going to show in a preview window or I can click movie and it will show the whole timeline in the preview window to the right of that I have the current time where the playhead is located at based on whether it's the current

time for a clip or the current time for the movie I also have this option here to change the size of the preview window before I not have it to fit I can change it to different sizes if I wish to do that and then under it I have my buttons for playing and different options so of course this first one is the play button you can hit play or the spacebar

on your keyboard and it will play and then you have stop and you can use this to stop it from playing then I have my buttons to navigate so the first one is previous frame and if I click on this then I'll go frame by frame backwards and then I have next frame I click on that I'll go frame by frame forward now this option in the middle allows me to change these

buttons and seek by different things so right now I have a seat by frame you can change you to seek by second and now if I click on these it'll move one second at a time you can do minute I can do segment which will actually jump between clips so it's all type of options I can switch that to then I have the fast-forward button and into the right of the fast-forward button I

have a snapshot button so this takes a picture and creates a JPEG of the frame where my playhead is located then to the right of that I have my preview quality and display options so I can change the preview quality between all these choices here then I have real-time preview or non real-time preview so both of time you don't want to use non real-time preview because if you do what happens is your

audio is cut out and you can see it gives me a little message there and then I have a little strikethrough over my audio so most times just leave it on real-time preview that way you don't have to worry about any audio issues you have your grid lines and do a preview and all that business down there of course you have your audio volume you have your settings for 3d and then you

have the ability to undock the preview window so if I click on that then I can move the preview window wherever I want I can be moving to a different monitor and then I can place it back by clicking the doc the preview window button so now that we're done with the preview window let's talk about the timeline on the left-hand side you have a few options here the first one is to

add additional tracks to the timeline so right now I have two tracks but if I click on this I'll get an option to add a video track audio track and effects track and I can add them at different positions within a timeline and then to the right of that if I want my entire movie to fill up the space on the timeline I can click on that and it filled up the

whole timeline go ahead and move this back how it was now over here on the left you can see that on the track 1 there is a video track and an audio track you can tell that on this clip there is video because that's on the first part but there's also audio that's on the second part where the audio speaker is also you have thumbnails of the scenes on the video track of

track 1 and on the audio track of track 1 you have a waveform this is a picture so it only appears on the video track of track 1 and nothing is in the audio track of track 1 now you can choose to disable or enable the video by clicking on the check box did you see the preview went black and you can do the same thing for the audio and then if

you want to lock a track you can lock the video or the audio separately if you do that then you can't move can't edit you can't change can't do anything to the clips on that track that you lock now besides the AV tracks that you have you also have an effect track that you can add effects to you have a title track for adding titles a voiceover track for adding voiceovers or narration

and in the music track for adding additional music you can add effect to Clips you don't have to just add them on the effects track alright so you can add effects to all the clips that you want and have as many effects add it onto a clip as you want doesn't matter don't think that because there's only one effects track that you can only add one effect you can add effect directly the

clips as well and add as many as you want to those clips and of course you can now also add an additional effects track to your timeline if you want same thing for titles you don't have to put titles on a title track you can put titles on the AV tracks if you want to right if you have music you could put that on an AV track you don't have to put

it on the music track after you click on a video clip you get specific options on this toolbar so the first option is to use magic tools for your movie so there's a bunch of different magic tools that you can use magicfix magic cut style movie wizard some of these things I already have tutorials on and some I'll be making tutorials on in the near future next to that you have a split the

selected clip so wherever you place your playhead at you click on split and it'll split that clip there you also have trim so you can trim unwanted portions of your selected clip as well and if you want to know how to remove unwanted parts of a video you can watch my full tutorial on how to cut split and trim videos now you can watch that video later using the link on the screen

or you can go to the link in the video description and to the right of that you have the designer button so under the designer you have options for the p IP designer the mask designer and the view designer now if you want to know how to overlay videos and create p IP videos or face cams or whatever you want to call it you can watch my p IP designer video and

there should be a link to that video on the top right of the screen as well as in the video description to the right of that you have your fix/enhance button so this is great for making adjustments to your video with our stabilizer white-balance denoise color match all that good stuff and then to the right of that you have tools with a bunch of different tools in here power tools audio ducking motion tracker

all that good stuff there's also some tools in here for slow motion and fast motion and if you want to know how to make a slow motion video or you want to know how to make a fast motion video then I have tutorials on those there'll be links to those videos on the screen and in the video description as well then you have your keyframe button so if you want to use

keyframes to change attributes of the video over time then this is the button you use and you have your edit audio button so you can edit audio in audio director if you own audio director if not you can edit audio using the wave director which comes for free with power director and to the right of that you have the delete button so you can delete or remove selected clips and then you have

your more features button so if you click on that all these features pop up and the same thing happens if you right-click on a video then you have all those features pop up as well now if you click on a video these are the options that pop up if you click on a image or a picture then you get an additional option to crop so you use this to crop the selected

image you get a cropping tool that pops up and you can utilize this to crop your video now the last thing I'm going to go over today is a produce tab so if you click on the produce you get options for 2d 3d a different device or to create a video that goes directly online to places like YouTube and Facebook if you choose 2d then you can choose the file format that you

want to save the video as you choose the file extension your profile which is your resolution and your frame rate and you choose what location and all that goodness and then click on start to actually save a file of the video that you can use outside of PowerDirector now if you want to know more about how to save videos the different ways you can save them with the different tools and how to

create them so you can use them on different devices then watch my tutorial on how to save videos or export videos and that's it Pat with director peeps basic editing 101 all right guys I want to thank you so much for watching this video all the way through to the end it truly means the world to me and now I want to send a shout-out to one of my subscribers Raoul Raoul makes
