Easy to use interface, but many features are buried. Can create up 4K video. The main reason I wanted this was the support of panoramic video and stills. It does not do any stitching, but it does manipulate the final image (tripod patch) and videos. If you have used Lightroom, you’ll see a striking resemblance between PhotoDirector and it. The features are easy to use and produce nice results. A bit of a learning curve, but worth it. Also supports hardware acceleration. Across both programs though is one annoyance – “Premium content” menus, tabs and more. Plus there are links everywhere to the “newest” effects. All of these cost extra money – or require a subscription. For video editing they really push the particle effects – but they only include some basic ones. Same for title templates, etc. Many remind me of stuff from the 1990’s – really dated. Fortunately there’s a lot of customizing, and some areas allow you to download other users templates and settings. 360 video is thoroughly integrated, but the effects and transitions are…

powerful, yet not too hard to learn I ran PowerDirecter 17 Ultra on a Toshiba laptop with 32 GB RAM, a SSD, Intel Core i7vPro CPU, and Windows 7 Pro 64 OS.* InstallationThe install from a DVD was fast. The first DVD contained the main program and 4 Premium Packs. (PowerDirector 16 only had 3 Premium Packs.) Total install time for this first DVD was 11 minutes. You must uninstall both the older version of PowerDirector, and the older Premium Packs, before installing the new.The second DVD had a Content Pack Essential. Again, you must uninstall the old Content Pack Essential before installing this new one. Install time of 7 minutes.* Same InterfaceAt first glance, PowerDirector 17’s interface appears identical to that of PowerDirector 16. I expect I’ll find a few near buttons as I use it. But if you’re familiar with 16, there’s not much of a learning curve in upgrading to 17.* Video TutorialsPowerDirector offers Video Tutorials…

Worth upgrading if you need and use the new features I recently upgraded to PowerDirector 17 from version 16. The interface is virtually identical to last year with no noticeable changes. Most of the major changes are under the hood. These are feature based and performance enhancements. For example, there’s better multi-cam support, improved 360 video stabalizer support, improved title design and so on. A full list of all the new features can be found on Cyberlink’s website for anyone who wants to see everything before purchasing. Performance is also similar. There really isn’t much difference in performance between this version and last.Should users of PowerDirector 16 upgrade? It depends. If you’re a power user (no pun intended) who does a lot of multi-camera, 360 camera projects or any projects that will take advantage of the new features that include multiple chroma keys, brush masking and so on, the improvements may be worth it. Basic home users likely won’t notice much difference between versions 16 and 17 if…
